On February 13th, voters have the opportunity to Vote YES on two replacement levies that enable Camas School District to provide enrichments and critical supports for students that the state legislature either doesn’t fully fund, or fund at all. These are not new taxes! Voting YES continues funding at the existing rates when the two current levies expire at the end of 2024.
The first levy is for Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O). It provides critical funding for teacher salaries that the state doesn’t cover, as well as professional development, ALL extracurriculars (including sports), instructional materials, AP courses, the Highly Capable program, special education services, bus services, crossing guards, elective classes, health services, custodians, building and grounds maintenance, and more.
The second replacement levy is a Capital Levy for Technology, Health, and Safety, which funds almost all hardware and software costs, such as Skyward, as well as capital maintenance, like roofs and heaters, and keeping Doc Harris and Cardon Fields safe by providing turf replacement funding.
My student benefited from levy-funded programs in ways we never would have imagined. For example, students are incredibly fortunate that our district offers Mandarin, which is identified by the U.S. Department of State as a “critical language” more young Americans should learn in the interests of national well-being and economic prosperity. Thanks to the opportunity to take Mandarin in high school, our son received a national scholarship to study Mandarin in Taiwan. Please don’t take levy-funded electives, like language options, for granted!
In addition, our levy-funded high school robotics team, FRC Team 2471, offers opportunities that benefit students well beyond high school, including machinery use and certification, engineering design, computer programming, data science, business development, fundraising, community outreach, and of course, building robots and competing with “gracious professionalism” (a core value) at regional and international competitions.
Students in our district benefit every day from a rich variety of levy-funded programs and supports, across all grade levels!
Please don’t assume the levies will pass without returning your ballot with a YES Vote! Our last levy passed by one of the thinnest margins ever – EVERY YES VOTE COUNTS. Let’s send a clear message on Election Day that this community puts students first!
Scott and Dr. Allison Higgins
As we get older and our kids are no longer in school, our personal experiences in the school district are different than they used to be. When Scott was a Camas student, it was easy for him to see all the things the levy did, and he was thankful that voters supported schools in his youth.
As we became parents, we also could see daily the good that was coming out of Camas schools through our children. We always proudly voted to support Camas schools.
In this chapter with our kids grown, for us it is still quite simple. We love this community, and the Camas School District is a big reason for that love. We love living in a community that has helped educate two generations of our family. We are proud to support this replacement levy to help our schools keep up the good they have done and grow into the future. We want to live in a thriving community, and so for this reason, we are voting Yes and ask you to join us. Thank you, Camas schools, for all the ways you have been a positive influence in our lives, and we hope that will continue for many years to come.

As a former K-12 Camas student, my classmates and I benefited immensely from both classroom and extracurricular programs funded by Camas school levies. Specifically, Camas school sports, music, theater, and robotics were just a few of the levy-funded programs that have cultivated a life-influencing opportunity after my high school graduation. Looking back, I see why this educational experience is the reason so many families chose Camas as their homestead.
My participation and development as a Camas football and baseball player, with levy-funded coaches, trainers, and facilities, instilled a love and purpose in something that has catapulted me thus far in life. Incredibly, it has taken me to other parts of our globe, where I have been able to share my experience, continue my learning opportunity, teach, give back, and hopefully soon bring back this passion to my Camas community. It is with such pride that I boast, in all the places I have lived, people I have met, and friends I have made, about the town in which I was raised, all of which made possible to me by an amazing Camas community and its extraordinary educational programs.
I am only one example in a very large pool of Camas graduates who share this pride and thankfulness. There are many more to come from your continued support and renewal of this important levy. I hope for and look forward to hearing about future life-influencing opportunities from every student who gets so lucky to grow up in Camas schools.
Please join me in voting Yes for Camas Schools!

The Camas School District is a place that made me feel so welcome; it was very obvious that the staff cared about their students and always had good energy in class. I participated in basketball, and the sense of community it provided was overwhelmingly helpful as a student. Being a graduate of Camas High School gives me pride, and voting yes on the levy will guarantee that more students will be able to feel as I do.

Thanks to the levy, the Camas FIRST Robotics team continues to provide a unique STEM education for our students. Students gain technical, collaborative, and leadership skills from the robotics program. Personally, I found my passion in helping others with technology through our COVID Infinite Resource project (crafting thousands of eye and face shields for healthcare workers) and outreach events. I hope future Papermakers will have the same opportunity, so please vote yes!

The Camas band, choir, and drama department bring so much joy to the CHS students, and these programs helped me succeed throughout high school and grow as a student. The community at CHS is amazing, and funding this levy will ensure that it stays amazing for the next generation of Papermakers. Vote yes!

We moved to Camas 25 years ago specifically so our children could attend Camas schools. We were impressed by a community that consistently supports and funds education. It was the best decision we could have made for our children. Their excellent foundation from Camas schools and after school programs launched them through college to successful careers. We continue to appreciate the unifying power of a community that strives to provide excellent education opportunities for all. Vote Yes on the school levies and bonds. It is a fantastic investment in both community and property values.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I can say that the Camas School District was vital in shaping the person I am today. The amazing teachers, staff, and administrators all pushed me in different ways to strive for excellence and give back to our community. Voting yes for this levy will ensure that the future generation of Papermakers will get the same chances to learn and grow. Vote yes!

My experience in the Camas School District impacted my success in the future by constantly challenging me to reach for my potential. I was able to attend a Division 1 college on a full-ride basketball scholarship while also gaining a bachelor's degree in Biology, and now I am a professional basketball player in the 1st Division German women's basketball league. I was challenged in high school to perform both on the court and in the classroom to the highest of my abilities, and I've carried that attitude with me even after I left the halls of CHS. The experience I gained there shaped me into the person that I am today, and I believe it has played a huge role in my success in college and now on a professional level.
JOANNE & FRANK PINELLI
We bought a home and moved to Camas … after living in the Portland area for 23 years. Even though our two children are grown, one of the major reasons we wanted to live in Camas was because of the outstanding reputation of it's school district. We deeply value high-quality education; a well educated community offers us the opportunity to live around people who have similar values and to own a home in a city that maintains strong market demand. Both of these mean a great deal to us as we retire and grow our roots in a new community.

Having lived in Camas for over 25 years, my wife and I have seen many changes in the city and community we call home. One thing that hasn't changed -- and is a key reason Camas remains an attractive place to live is the value we place on K-12 education. We moved here for the schools when our three girls were just getting to school age. Their education took place both in the classroom as well as the many school activities they participated in -- and it set them up for the successful adult lives they lead today. There is no better investment in our communities than to support our local schools. The benefits accrue not only to our children, but also to the continued growth and vitality of our community. Please join me in continuing the legacy of strong Camas schools and vote "yes" to approve the upcoming school levy measures in February.

A yes vote for this levy is far more than a yes vote for Camas schools. The high quality of education is the core of our community, and it’s to credit for our influx of wonderful small businesses, new families, and aspiring young minds. The success of our school district is intertwined with all facets of our community, so to vote no for the progression of our schools is to vote no for the progression of our community. We have created something special in this town and it would be ludicrous to stop now. Vote YES!
