Passage of the upcoming bond measure will fund the following projects:

  • Build a new, standalone, 600-student high school adjacent to the Camas High School (CHS) campus.
  • Improve traffic congestion around CHS by creating new entry points and traffic-flow patterns for drivers, and increase parking capacity on campus.
  • Replace Lacamas Heights Elementary with a larger new school north of Lacamas Lake near new housing developments.
  • Improve student safety and security by remodeling the entry/office areas of Prune Hill Elementary, Dorothy Fox Elementary, Skyridge Middle School, Liberty Middle School, and Hayes Freedom High School.
  • Improve student safety and security across the district by upgrading fencing, lighting, and security technology.
  • Make repairs to major building systems such as roofing, flooring, HVAC, lighting, ADA access and mechanical systems in schools throughout district.
  • Renovate the Garfield Building to house community education programs and preschool programs.
  • Restore historic the Garver Theater for community use and school performances.
  • Acquire property for future schools.

This proposal is a result of efforts made by a dynamic cross-section of Camas citizens, called the “Facilities Advisory of Citizens, Teachers, Staff and Students,” or FACTSS, for short. A call for applicants was made to the public early in 2016, and the committee, after selection, met in the spring and summer to study the district’s facility challenges and make recommendations.

Numerous third-party experts, researchers, architects provided insight and information, and countless hours were spent devising solutions that would best honor the investment of taxpayer dollars – and the future of Camas students, educators, and staff.

After the proposal was presented to the Camas School Board in May, the district took the FACTSS recommendations and presented them to the community at listening posts. Additionally, the district team spoke to local parent-teacher organizations, as well as to various non-profit organizations around the city to share knowledge and seek input.

The final proposal reflects our deepest commitment to your schools – and our community.
